Names are Prophetically Significant

This past weekend Aneta and I were able to visit Frederick, Maryland in order to have some quality time together before the baby comes in November. The past few months I’ve been seeking the Lord for the name that is in God’s heart for our little girl. As I’ve prayed, I’ve sensed in my heart that there is a strong prophetic calling upon this little one—therefore, I tried to discern a name that would prophetically frame her calling in the Lord. It had to be something that would represent what God has in His heart for her to pursue and walk in.

Names are significant. It shouldn’t be taken lightly. In an excellent Breakpoint article, Hello, My Name is ESPN, Chuck Colson writes, “In Scripture, a person’s name was often intimately linked with what God planned to do with is or her life. For example, at the command of the Archangel Gabriel, our Lord was named Jesus, which means ‘God will save us.’”

Both Aneta and I took to heart the responsibility of seeking God’s face for the name that He would have us give to our firstborn. Hence, we spent considerable time praying and mulling over possibilities that we felt were reflective of a prophetic calling. We desired to find a name that would be special to her and remind her of her unique calling from the Lord. Hence, we have settled on a name that we believe the Lord would have us name our little girl—Simone Beth’el Hume.

Let me explain.

Simone in Hebrew means one who hears. Beth’el comes from the Hebrew word that we normally write as Bethel—however, we want the pronunciation to be slightly different. The word Bethel comes from the story of Jacob in Genesis 28:10-17:

Jacob left Beersheba and set out for Haran. When he reached a certain place, he stopped for the night because the sun had set. Taking one of the stones there, he put it under his head and lay down to sleep. He had a dream in which he saw a stairway resting on the earth, with its top reaching to heaven, and the angels of God were ascending and descending on it. There above it stood the LORD, and he said: ‘I am the LORD, the God of your father Abraham and the God of Isaac. I will give you and your descendants the land on which you are lying. Your descendants will be like the dust of the earth, and you will spread out to the west and to the east, to the north and to the south. All peoples on earth will be blessed through you and your offspring. I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go, and I will bring you back to this land. I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.’ When Jacob awoke from his sleep, he thought, ‘Surely the LORD is in this place, and I was not aware of it.’ He was afraid and said, ‘How awesome is this place! This is none other than the house of God; this is the gate of heaven.’”

Bethel is Hebrew for house of God. It was in this place where Jacob received revelation concerning the God of his forefathers, Abraham and Isaac. Jacob encounters the Lord in a powerful way in this passage. There was such awe brimming in his heart that he exclaims, “Surely the LORD is in this place, and I was not aware of it…How awesome is this place! This is none other than the house of God; this is the gate of heaven.” Bethel is a place of revelation.

Hence, the name Simone Beth’el has the following implications: She will be one who hears in the place of revelation. Implicit in the concept of revelation is that it is the revelation of Christ/Father God himself, as insinuated in Ephesians 1:17I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, will give you the Spirit of wisdom of revelation so that you may know him better.

In closing, I want to write a simple prayer for my daughter.

Father, I thank you for entrusting to us this little one. Thank you for watching over her as she is formed in the womb. I declare this day that you have named her Simone Beth’el Hume. She will be one who hears in the place of revelation. She will rise up as a prophetic voice to the nations. Father, in the years to come, may Simone Beth'el be even in her early years, one who, like Samual of old, lingers near the Ark of your Presence. Open her eyes even at a young age to the reality of Christ Jesus. Draw her heart to Him in a way that changes the course of her life. Enable Aneta and I to prepare her for the prophetic calling that is upon her life. In all, may You be glorified through the life of Simone Beth'el Hume. In Jesus' name. Amen.

A Powerful Story

I want to encourage you to watch a brief excerpt of TBN’s Praise the Lord show from Thursday Aug 23, 2007 with host Pastor Dwight Thompson. I recommend that you forward to the beginning of his conversation when he talks with missionary-evangelist Wayne Francis. Such a powerful testimony of how Wayne’s influence initially impacted Pastor Dwight in 1973 during a mission outreach in India. They both have a revelation that burns deeply concerning the call to reach the lost. As Americans indulged in comfort, we desperately need to be reminded of this reality of the Great Commission. It is relatively short, but so powerful. Wayne’s tenderness of heart towards the lost and those suffering is contagious. I wept when I first heard this several weeks ago. Today I watched it again and felt compelled to share it with my readers.

Please share any feedback.

Change my heart, O God!!!!

Only Believe

As I mentioned in the previous blog posting, I met David Davenport through Dr. Tom Dooley during my trip to Chicago. Since then, David and I have communicated a few times through email. He sent me a link to his blog, which I also want to share with you. He has a story that he has written titled, "Only Believe". It is a lengthy story, but well worth the time.

The essence of the message ministered deeply to my heart in multiple ways. I trust that the Holy Spirit will minister to you as you hear the heart of a man who longs for all that is in the heart of God. If you have any feedback concerning the story, please feel free to write a comment on this blog posting.

In the next few days I will also write about my experience this past weekend sharing my testimony at the Men's Holy Convocation that was held at our church. It was overall a powerful time.

In Christ,

My Trip to Chicago

This past weekend I had an opportunity to be a part of the Path Clearer Ministries team under the leadership of Dr. Tom Dooley. We ministered at the Redeemed & Empowered Teaching Church in Chicago Heights, Illinois. Pastor John and Cherry Rice are doing a good work there. We were able to release the word of the Lord for them and the congregation regarding what the Lord has in store for them in their community.

It was definitely a wonderful time as we were able to minister one-on-one prophetically to the people of the Redeemed & Empowered Teaching Church and the extended community. Tom had a powerful message titled, "The Plurality of Prophets" that was indeed a needed word to strike the "lone ranger" mentality that pervades prophetic-oriented people at times. Personally I learned so much through my interactions with the whole team. They shared much wisdom with me during the meals of their past experiences and trips. Also I was paired up with Dr. Dooley during the ministry time, which allowed me to observe and learn as he ministered prophetically to people. God has entrusted to Tom a tremendous prophetic gifting and calling.

At the conclusion of the conference, Pastor John and Cherry immediately made plans to have another prophetic conference again next year at the same time. Wise move!

Tom and I also discussed the need for a possible school of the prophets here in Virginia within the year. Please contact me if you are interested in seeing us bring a team to your church or region.

Click here if you want to view all the pictures that I have.

Here is Dr. Tom Dooley and I standing with a young teenager that we prayed for the first night. Kenyon has a tremendous calling upon his life as a soulwinner. We layed hands on him and prayed that God would send him forth with an evangel anointing to reach those in his community. He is also quite gifted in the area of music and he was the one to blow the shofar to commence the meeting.

Here is Tom talking with David Davenport prior to David's message on Saturday morning. David gave an excellent message on intimacy with the Lord and the prophetic calling. He is from Ohio and has seen God move mightily in his life in times past. I'll share more later from his writings. Truly he is one who exudes the peace of God. When I first saw him, I kept seeing an image of a key being turned in a lock. After sharing this with him he said that it was a reference to Isaiah 22:22-"I will place on his shoulder the key to the house of David; what he opens no one can shut, and what he shuts no one can open." David epitomizes those in the body of Christ whom the Lord is positioning to be commissioned for a new work. Many believers feel that they have missed their “emergence” in years past and are wondering if they will ever be able to fulfill all that God spoke over their lives in years past. I believe David is a first fruit of this re-emergence that is coming forth in this hour.

The Lord gave me a strong prophetic word over two years ago about a re-emergence of those that thought they had missed it in the past. He has called me to call forth the hidden fathers and mothers in the faith to step into this re-emergence that the Lord is sending forth in this hour. I will share more on it in the weeks to come. There are many out there who read this blog who feel that their emergence has passed them by. The Lord is going to prophetically activate and release you into your calling in the coming days that is going to astound many. Prior to the emergence of the upcoming evangelists, prophets, forerunners, and the like, is the re-emergence of the hidden fathers and mothers. God has a company of hidden fathers who will re-emerge with a fresh mantle to bestow upon the sons and daughters. I can see it. It is going to be powerful: David is a first fruit of this movement of fathers that is going to emerge in the coming days.

Here is a full group shot of the whole team that Tom assembled for this prophetic conference. From left to right: Dale, Lisa, John, Tom, David, and myself. Tom brought Dale and Lisa from Birmingham, Alabama. David brought along John from Ohio. Altogether, each person was quite unique in how they operated prophetically.

In all, it was an amazing experience that I am so grateful for. I'm reminded of the absolute necessity of passionately pursuing the Lord in intimacy, which is truly the key to operating in a strong prophetic flow.

Is Lust Nullifying Your Voice?

This upcoming Saturday (September 15th 8AM – 12PM) the pastors and elders of Grace Church of Fredericksburg have summoned all the men of the church to attend a Call to Purity. The pastors of Grace Church have stated that their heart is to see the men find freedom and healing in the areas of sexual sin. They have asked me to share a brief testimony (10 minutes) of how the Lord brought me out of a place of being in bondage to lust and pornography to a place of being victorious in this area of my life.

The following is an excerpt that I wrote in my journal years ago as I was contemplating upon a past season of my life of bondage to lust, perversion, and despair:

“During my years of silent rebellion against the Lord, I can vaguely recall a moment when the realization came to me that the affirmation and acceptance that I previously received from the Father in the secret place was now being replaced by the pursuit and gratification of lustful desires. In essence I had exchanged the glory of God for the shallow, numbing, defiling, destructive pleasures of lust. It was a slow, suffocating death that offered temporary relief of pleasure with lasting agony of shame. My heart slowly hardened. Deceitfulness abounded. I had permitted the desires of the world to draw me away from the Father’s embrace. This was a hellish transition from a secret place of communion with the Father to a secret life of shame, callousness, and destruction—it was a painful death, albeit a slow one. Each choice to sin against the Lord simply reinforced the negative inner turmoil within—fueling self-hatred, despair, and deceit. The allure of the ever-deceiving bliss of sin served as a harbinger of the defilement that would follow. Destruction always follows defilement. Where defilement has occurred, destruction will eventually become evident for all to see. Unrepentant sin that is practiced habitually opens the door to defilement. What is defilement? It is when the holy, the sacred is treated as unsacred, as common.”

Are you presently living a life of compromise in the area of purity and holiness? Where are you in this hidden snare? Which of the following would you categorize yourself: (1) the deceived stage (2) defiled stage or (3) destruction stage?

Here is a letter that I wrote several summers ago to a friend of mine that I have known for about 13 years. I have removed some key parts of the letter in order to protect his identity, however, I think the letter itself is a helpful reminder to men of the need for purity in their lives. Men caught in the vicious cycle of lust, despair, and deceit need to know that there is indeed hope for restoration.

July 6

Greetings! I want to write to you and congratulate you on your recent new job. That is great news! Keep up the good work!

How is your summer so far? Have you read any good books? Right now I am reading a new one by Francis Frangipane called A Time to Fight, which is great! He is one of my favorite authors! This book reflects the theme that has been in my life during the past year: We must WAR to walk in our destiny and inheritance. It isn't a walk in the park. Psalm 144:1 is now one of my favorite verses: Praise be to the Lord my ROCK, who trains my hands for war and my fingers for battle. This is especially true in our culture where lust and sexuality is constantly bombarding the believer who desires to live a life set apart unto the Lord. I know this from first hand experience. God has delivered me from the bondages of lust and now I am learning to walk in continual victory in this area of my life. For any man who is ensnared by the coils of lust, pornography, and shame, nothing less than an all out war will enable that believer to get free. Again I speak from experience and from the counsel of Scripture. It takes radical measures to become a warrior that is free from this destructive lifestyle. Radical in the sense of making practical changes such as getting rid of cable, television, not watching questionable movies, removing access to the Internet in the home by allowing only the wife to know the password, being accountable to a brother who has victory in this area, and staying away from public places (malls, college campuses, coffee shops) that have high volumes of traffic, especially of attractive women dressed in a provocative manner.

The Lord has already put a brother in my path who is struggling in this area and needs accountability, wisdom and prayer. His wife caught him looking at pornography on the Internet when she went away for the weekend. She was getting ready to leave him since he was committing adultery, but after consulting with the leadership at the church and seeing godly sorrow in this man, she decided to stay. So far it has been about six weeks and he seems to be making progress.

As I have seen in the past, deceitfulness is often intricately tied into the life of the person who is in bondage to lust. The struggle with lust itself deludes the believer because they are unable to discern between what is reality and what is fantasy. It is a frightening place to be and not many make it once they are in this place of deception.

I praise God again for his mercy in my life, enabling me even to have the desire to turn away from the vices of lust and selfishness. The seeds of lust that we fail to address in our lives will sprout and bear fruit if we don't have a radical edge in our walk to deal ruthlessly with sin. You got to hate it with a passion. If you don't, it will simply nullify your effectiveness as a witness, testimony and minister for Christ.

This is good preaching here buddy! I'm preaching myself silly! I try, as much as time permits, to write to my male friends about the subtle dangers of lust that lurks in the backgrounds of our lives. None of us are immune from it. In writing this out, it also reminds me of the price I will pay if I ever turn back to a life of pursuing vain fantasies that will ultimately destroy my marriage, life and future ministry. Writing also allows me to encourage myself as I am able to discern how far the Lord has brought me out of the mire. Thank you for listening! I do hope that wherever you are in your battle that this letter is an encouragement to you.

(this concludes the letter to my friend)

Please pray for me this Saturday as I share the testimony of what the Lord has done in my life in this area. I find it interesting that I will be addressing this issue on the heels of being introduced Sunday during the service as a new addition to the staff of Grace Church as one working with the Emerging Generation Ministries. Again, I believe that this has been arranged by the sovereignty of God—remember, humility must come before honor. I Peter 5:6 states, “Humble yourselves, therefore, under God's mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time.”

I will write more concerning how to walk in victory over the sin of lust, pornography, and shame.

TheCall Las Vegas

The Nazirite Uprising: TheCall Las Vegas

Last night, on the eve of 9/11, a young man had a powerful dream:

In the dream, I was sitting with two young men around a table with leaders in the Church. They were talking about methods and tactics of how to grow churches, create programs, and increase their numbers in their churches. Then, I stood up in the dream, and said, “I have something to say!”

At that time, five young men walked in with shaved heads and it was clear that they had consecrated themselves as Nazirites. I spoke with these leaders and said, “We need to learn separation and consecration, then you will see your churches grow. For the next 40 days, you must separate and consecrate yourselves for anything in your churches.”

Lou then turned to one of the young men and said, “It is the Nazirite Uprising!

This young man who had the dream last night on the eve of 9/11 had no idea that 40 days from 9/11 leads to 10/20/07, which is the date of TheCall Las Vegas.

The major theme of TheCall Las Vegas will be the calling forth of a resurgence of the Nazirites. I believe that there is a grace for young men and women called to the Nazirite consecration to set themselves apart in these next 40 days (September 11 – October 20, the date of TheCall Las Vegas). We are also calling all those in Las Vegas and those coming to TheCall Las Vegas to consider fasting 21 days before TheCall Las Vegas (September 30 – October 20) to prepare our hearts before the Lord. We are living in a historic hour and it is important that we seize this divine moment for our nation. We are calling forth 20,000 Nazirites to join us at TheCall Las Vegas as we renew our consecration and cry out to God for revival for Las Vegas and our nation.

My Assignment to Chicago

Tomorrow I fly out to Chicago to join Dr. Tom Dooley and his Path Clearer associates who will be ministering at a prophetic conference. We’ll be ministering Friday night and Saturday at the conference. Dr. Dooley is also scheduled to minister at a church in the Chicago area Sunday morning.

Please consider praying for us during this trip that lives would be radically touched as God speaks clearly into the lives of those in attendance. I’ve been trying to prepare myself for this upcoming trip and I sense that it will be a significant time for me on a personal level. I’m especially excited that the conference will be hosted by an African American congregation. In recent months God has orchestrated a series of events where He has (re)connected me with key emerging leaders in the African American community who are primed to become future key leaders in the body of Christ. One such person is Darrian Summerville (pictured on the right) who is the worship leader for Bishop Wellington Boone. You can read the story of how I was reconnected with this high school classmate after 15 years. The African American believers may very well hold the key for the resurgence of our Nation due to the mantle that God places upon those who have come out of the bondage of slavery. Just as Moses was called to lead the Hebrew people out of bondage, so too, do I believe that many African American leaders are called to operate as deliverers of nations in this postmodern era.

Darrian is a prototype of this emerging deliverer. I suspect I will also recognize this mantle on others at this upcoming conference.

So as I am preparing myself to minister the Lord’s heart to others, I myself am prepared to receive from the Lord during this pivotal trip.

I’ll write an update when I get back.

For the Cause,

Brian Francis Hume
